DRL Mode for Position Light Activation

Many vehicles leave the factory with position lights that only illuminate at night or during manual switch‑on. DRL mode for position light activation changes this behavior to make these lights function as daytime running lights. A technician performs DRL mode for position light activation via a simple software coding procedure. This modification uses the existing position light bulbs or LED modules as the primary daytime lighting source. Consequently, the vehicle gains enhanced daytime visibility without the need for additional hardware. The activation typically includes both front position lights and sometimes the rear parking lights. Moreover, the system retains full manual control for nighttime use.
First, the technician connects a diagnostic tool to the vehicle’s OBD port. After that, they access the central electronics module or body control module. Then they locate the parameter controlling the DRL source selection. Subsequently, they change the setting from “dedicated DRL” to “position lights”.

The position lights illuminate whenever the engine runs and the light switch is in AUTO or OFF position. They operate at full brightness during daytime hours. Moreover, they dim automatically when the headlights turn on at night. As a result, the system provides appropriate brightness for all conditions. The turn signals and hazard lights remain unaffected.
