Configurable Terrain Response Mode
📄 Product Description
Configurable Terrain Response is an advanced off-road personalization feature from Jaguar Land Rover that allows drivers to individually configure key vehicle systems — including powertrain, steering, differentials, traction control, and suspension— to create a custom off-road driving profile tailored to specific terrain conditions and personal preferences. First introduced as a world-first for Terrain Response on the New Land Rover Defender in 2019, CTR represents the next evolution of JLR’s patented Terrain Response system. Unlike the standard preset modes that apply fixed combinations of settings, Configurable Terrain Response gives drivers granular control over each individual system, enabling them to mix and match characteristics from different terrain modes.
⚙️ Function
Engine Calibration: Modifies engine output characteristics to suit different terrain types and driving styles.
🔄 Chassis and Suspension
Ride Height : Allows adjustment of ground clearance to match terrain requirements — from normal to off-road height.
Body Control: Modifies roll and pitch characteristics for improved stability on uneven surfaces.
🔒 Differentials andTraction Control
- Differential Settings: Configures the behaviour of the active rear locking differential and electronic active differential — from fully open to aggressively locked.
- Traction Control Sensitivity:Adjusts the intervention threshold of the traction control system — allowing more wheel slip in sand or less slip on rock surfaces.
- Torque Vectoring: Modifies torque distribution across axles for optimal traction in varying conditions.
⚙️ Operation and Customization
Access: Typically through the Pivi Pro infotainment screen under Off-Road / Terrain Response settings, or via a dedicated menu button.
Presets:The system provides standard Terrain Response 2 presets as a starting point, which the driver can then customize.
Storage:Settings are saved to a custom profile and remain active until changed.
Real-time Adjustment:Most systems allow changes to be made while driving off-road, with immediate effect.
🧠 Integration with Terrain Response and Auto Mode
- Terrain Response 2: The underlying system that provides automatic terrain detection and preset mode selection.
- Auto Mode: Monitors driving conditions every second and systematically selects the most suitable terrain setting automatically.
- Manual Override: Drivers can manually override the Auto setting and lock in a specific mode or custom configuration.
