Soft close doors (also called gentle close or power latching) pulls the door shut automatically when you close it to the first catch. No more slamming doors — just close it gently and the motor takes over. This feature is standard on higher trim levels but frequently disabled on vehicles sold in markets where it was not standard.

How Soft Door Close Works

Each door has a small electric motor in the latch mechanism. When the door reaches the first catch (about 6mm from fully closed), the motor activates and pulls the door the rest of the way, sealing it tight. The motor operates for about 2 seconds and consumes minimal power. The system works on all four doors and the tailgate (if fitted).

Which Vehicles Have the Hardware?

Soft door close motors are typically fitted to: Range Rover (all trims from HSE), Range rover sport l461 (HSE and above), Defender (HSE and above), Discovery (HSE and above). The motors are inside the door latch and are not visible from the outside. You can check by listening for a gentle whirring sound when you close the door to the first catch.

Activation Process

Soft close doors activation is a CCF editing job that takes 20-30 minutes. The technician enables the soft close parameter for each door and runs a calibration routine. After activation, the doors will self-close from the first catch. The system can be disabled again if needed.

Troubleshooting

Door not closing: The motor may be stuck. Try closing the door firmly once to reset the mechanism. Strange noise: The motor may need lubrication. Contact us us for assistance. Intermittent operation: This usually indicates a weak motor that needs replacement. We can supply and fit replacement motors.
